This tour takes guests through Guayaquils history - from the beginning of the ceramic period, the early inhabitants, the Spanish colonization and its very rich legacy of Colonial Art, the Independence struggles and the modern art. Guests can choose to visit two or three of the following museums, according to their interests.
The Municipal Museum with a great collection of archaeology, remains of very advanced civilizations in Ecuadors coast, plus areas of history, Colonial Art and Modern Art. Authentic reduced human heads (tzantzas) can be viewed here. Museum Nahím Isaías Barquet which holds archeology of the four cultural periods of the Ecuadorian coast, from 10.000 BC until 1532 AD. Another exhibition is of Colonial religious art museum from the beginning of the 16th century to the end of the18th century. Museum of Anthropology and Contemporary Art (MAAC) has recently been moved to the northern part of Guayaquils waterfront Malecon 2000, to a beautiful modern vessel-like construction. where open cultural acts like classic, folk, jazz, blues and pop music are presented.
Banco del Pacifico Archeological and Modern Art Museum The Archaeology Museum of the Banco del Pacifico houses a very valuable collection of approximate 8000 pieces of the ancient cultures of the Ecuadorian coastal region. Also on display in a vast collection of modern paintings. Marine History Museum shows the History of the Ecuadorian Navy. Calderón Memorial Museum, built inside a warship, it shows visitors about the naval Battle of Jambelí with a display of guns, artifacts and clothing used by sailors and officers considered heroes of the battle. Museum of Gold of the House of Culture displays figurines, masks, ornaments and utensils made of gold by La Tolita culture, in the Province of Esmeraldas, from 500 BC until 1532.
