Managed by Pro-Bosque private Foundation with 5000 hectares, it protects one of the few remaining areas of dry and shrub forest in Ecuador with a rich biodiversity that includes ocelots, jaguars, howler, spider and capuchin monkeys, white tailed deer, collared peccary, raccoons, and the famous endangered Great Green Macaw well known as the Guayaquil Macaw, the symbol of the protected forest. Cerro Blanco is a birders paradise, the habitat of 211 species, including 20 species of birds of prey. The "Avenue of the Birds" was recently inaugurated and consists of a self-guided path of 300 meters (990 feet) that can be done in 15 minutes. Cerro Blanco has an outdoor theater, three nature trails of different lengths, camping and picnic area plus the Great Green Macaw captive breeding center. From January to May the forest is totally green and abundant water allows bird nesting. From June to December is the dry season, leaves are brownish-red. Guests can choose from different trails of one to four hours duration.
