The Chongón Lake is a man-made lake created to irrigate the vast dry land of the Peninsula de Santa Elena, surrounded by a park. This lake is part of a pipeline system that brings water from the Daule river by pumping it onto this land depression of about 26 km2 and a 50 meters of depth that forms the lake, which is now the habitat of a large variety of birds, butterflies, fish and plants species. Fishes like Tilapia, Chame and the well known sweet water lobster, red-claw crayfish are raised in the lake. The Nautical Club that offers boats, kayaks and water cycles for fishing and water sports.
